Timeline

After 4 years of Rich Power; a company bursting with culture, we're evolving as a brand driven by purpose; to provide commercial opportunities to underrepresented talent and developing them for sustained success. This is a look back on some of our highlights as a company and the memories that will make us look back fondly at Rich Power as a much loved brand we'll never forget.

WHAT BROUGHT US HERE?
The founding moment – where it all started. The idea for Rich Power Films was formed over none other than a delicious Chicken and Beef burrito in Wholefoods by myself (Jemel Richards) and Neron Power (a family friend); to create a venture that would allow us to have autonomy over the projects we wanted to do.
Whilst the name may have been formed that day, the partnership had been growing for a few years before that with Neron giving me the all important opportunity to camera operate on my first freelance job – a show for superstar J Hus.

LOTM Season 8
Hands down, one of the most memorable projects we executed was the latest season of Lord of The Mics, an iconic grime rap battle series which was home to some of the greatest MC battles in UK grime history, pioneered by Jammer.

Being in that basement, under the lights and right in front of two MCs who are absolutely going at each other with bars, disses, pushes, hat slaps, audacious pictures; is some of the most intense filming I've ever done – what an experience! Not only did we deliver 9 full episodes (available on major streaming platforms) but we also covered the Screening, Release Party, Trailers, All Star MV, and various pop-up shows to promote the tape.

Our Office
Whilst we had been working out of my Mum's storage room in Hackney for several months, we decided to make the all-important step of dedicating our time to it full-time and renting an office space which was located in Hackney Central. Decorating this office was our first pinch-me moment; not only had we started a business but we had seen growth which allowed us to have our own office space.

My favourite thing about this was seeing how Jodie pretty much built the entire office (including hand painting our logo) and was henceforward given the name 'Built by Jodie'. Jodie was working with us part time up until this point, but shortly after joined us full time as our Client Acquisition Manager.

Just Eat x Greggs - Let The Good Times Roll
After a difficult year of battling through COVID and the 1st lockdown, this job marked the start of our second phase of growth which saw us successfully produce over 50 jobs in 2021. This job gave us the opportunity to start building a commercial client base whilst still working with professional talent we worked with on music-based content.

Mocco joined the team
We had a security officer join the team - Mocco, the office dog. At first he was actually terrorising all of us while he learnt the basics and bite inhibition, he was hardly the security we were hoping for (they're meant to attack intruders, not us) but with lots of training and treats he got promoted to our wellness officer.

He will bark every time someone buzzes the door, but he also brings loads of cuddles, laughs and protection which was (and always is) fundamental to our company.

Just Eat - Home Advantage
Being contacted to produce a TV format web series hosted by Munya Chawawa and featuring some legendary football players (the likes of David James, Ally McCoist, Joe Cole and Casey Stone MBE) was an absolute pleasure and we had great fun turning this series around.

First Employees - Iyola & Ile
Although Mocco provides emotional support, we definitely needed to grow the team (with humans) for us to strive. Et Voilà, in came Iyola as a Junior producer and Ilé as a videographer. Working with Iyola and Ilé helped us grow into the great people we are today. With their help and work ethic we were able to gain new experiences and take our business to new heights.

Just Eat - Global Scenarios
The highlight of 2022 was definitely this Just Eat Takeaway Global Scenarios campaign we did for BYTE/DEPT®, directed by Sye Allen, an immensely talented director specialising in comedic storytelling in commercials. This was our biggest project to date but it showed us that our purpose was having the impact we were hoping for which only reinforced our drive to scale.

Towards the end of 2022
Neron felt that his influence in the music industry was unfinished and thus made the decision to leave Rich Power. Neron was a powerful force who helped Rich Power bring 15 commercial videos to life, worked on 135 total projects, and produced a total of 922 mins worth of videos. With a bittersweet goodbye, we realised that it was now time for a big, big change...

From Rich Power to HERO - Rebrand
Over the years, we found a lot of our conversations steering towards the lack of underrepresented talent on commercial sets. This clarified our new purpose at HERO - provide commercial opportunities for underrepresented talent to craft original stories.
